Five disciplines, one practice.
Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design is a forty-year-old discipline grounded in a simple idea — the way a property is built and maintained shapes the behavior that occurs on it. Every Shield Point assessment is structured around these five principles.
Natural Surveillance
Design that maximizes visibility — windows, sight lines, lighting, and pedestrian paths that keep eyes on the space. The harder a space is to observe, the more opportunity it creates.
Access Control
Guiding movement through the physical environment — entry points, fencing, landscaping, and signage — so authorized users move freely while unauthorized access is deterred or delayed.
Territorial Reinforcement
Clear boundaries between public, semi-public, and private space. Pavement changes, landscaping, and signage signal ownership and communicate that a space is cared for and observed.
Maintenance
Well-maintained properties signal care and vigilance. Broken fixtures, failing lighting, and overgrown landscaping communicate the opposite — and invite opportunity.

Jonathan founded Shield Point Solutions out of a belief that safety and security should be approached proactively, not reactively. Through his law enforcement experience, he has seen firsthand the value of prevention, thoughtful site design, and practical security planning. He started the company to help clients strengthen their properties through CPTED-based assessments and with the long-term goal of promoting wider awareness and application of CPTED principles in schools, multifamily communities, and other properties nationwide.
